The IHS clinical guidelines:
- Address the unique aspects of care for American Indians and Alaska Natives.
- Enable health care professionals and other members of diabetes care teams to offer consistent, quality care to American Indians and Alaska Natives.
- Were developed using a consensus process that involved health care professionals and scientific experts within and outside the IHS.
- Reflect and support the concept of a team approach to diabetes care in Indian health care facilities and the communities that surround them.
