5th Disparities Partnership Forum
Overcoming Diabetes: Diabetes Care in High Risk Populations
For four years, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) has convened a forum that provided a platform to address the severe onset of type 2 diabetes in high-risk populations. The goal for this year’s forum is to collaborate with partners to address the disparity of cultural competency, health literacy and health equity in health care, specifically in populations at highest risk for type 2 diabetes.

The last day, November 17, features a community event for health care professionals and the general public, including:
- Panel discussions on diabetes in special population groups
- Workshops on various topics such as glucose sensors; diabetes and obesity in young people; healthy cooking classes and physical activity classes, such as line dancing, Zumba®, Tai chi, exercise balls and band-and-chair exercises
- Self-care sessions that allow one-on-one question and answer time
