FHWA Resource Center

PAVEMENT AND MATERIALS TEAM

The Resource Center Pavement and Materials Technical Service Team offers a complete range of services to the transportation community at State, local, and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Division Offices across the United States, covering all States and 6 territories. The focus areas of the Pavement and Materials Team include the following:

  • Optimize Pavement Design, Materials, and Evaluation for Performance.
  • Advance Quality Systems--develop and deploy full range of new tools to assure quality and performance of pavement projects, and deliver next generation quality systems.
  • Enhance User Satisfaction--through reduced congestion and safer pavement surface characteristics.
  • Technical Capability Building-qualified, equipped workforce to assure quality of Federal-aid pavement and materials.
  • Environmental Steward-promote use of recycled materials and processes that provide quality pavement materials.

The team also works to successfully engage academia and public-private-partnerships to form a more effective solution to pavement and materials needs. The Pavement and Materials Team has been actively engaged around the Nation, providing a full range of specialized technical advice, training, and services to help improve our transportation infrastructure.

Mission: To Provide Timely and High Quality Technical Information on Highway Pavement and Material Issues

  • Pavement Management and Design Expertise and Training
    Mechanistic and Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG) procedures; Pavement Management System; Preventative Maintenance; Research; QC/QA program; Life Cycle Costs Analysis; Long Term Pavement Performance (LTPP)LTPP; Equipment; Pavement Smoothness measurement.
