Thumbnail preview ANNOTATION: Those critical actions that courts need to take to ensure effective security are explained. What is nice about this publication is that it acknowledges that improvements are costly. Therefore the steps are broken into categories that are fundamental to address, extremely important, very important, and important. These can then be looked at as funding allows. Categories are: Fundamental--command and control center, policies and procedures, and security committee; Extremely Important--access of people into court building, after-hours access to court building, chambers, courtrooms, court security officer (CSO) staffing levels, duress alarms, threat and incident reporting, in-custody defendants, and training; Very Important--closed circuit television (CCTV), emergency equipment and procedures, interior access during business hours (circulation zones). intrusion alarms, jurors, parking (particularly for judges), and public counters and offices; and Important--cash handling, exterior/interior patrols, perimeter issues, public lobbies, hallways, stairwells, and elevators, and screening mail and packages.
