SENIOR LEADERS ARE SAYING
"I think the most important thing that helps us with success - whether you're talking money, resources, or advertising - is having the right number of recruiters, Soldiers, on the ground. That's what it really comes down to."
- Maj. Gen. Donald M. Campbell Jr., commander, Army Recruiting Command, attributed the Army success in FY 2009 to the right number of recruiters across all components

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING
Year of the Noncommissioned Officer
"To make a long story short, when all that kicked off in Afghanistan - that redundant training - the stuff that I thought has no place, no purpose, doing it many times (saved me.)... It's because of all that training; it's because of all those NCOs that looked after me and taught me everything they knew (throughout my military career), that I managed to react just like that."
- Sgt. Gregory S. Ruske, said his actions were a great credit to his training and the NCOs who served as his trainers and mentors. He is only the fifth U.S. Army Reserve Soldier to receive the Silver Star for heroic actions in Afghanistan or Iraq.

What is it?
Unified Quest (UQ) is the Army's continuing study of the future security environment designed to isolate and frame issues vital to current and future force development. The study comprises a series of wargames, seminars, workshops and conferences serving as the Chief of Staff, Army's primary mechanism to explore enduring operational challenges and the conduct of full spectrum operations.
What has the Army done?
Over the past year in UQ09, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) in conjunction with Special Operations Command (SOCOM) and Joint Forces Command (JFCOM) explored sustaining balance in the future force as an integral component of a unified government approach to national security. Representatives from academia, the national security community, the other services, senior military leaders, and Army Service Component Commands participated in more than 13 events resulting in nine key insights approved by Gen. Martin Dempsey, commanding general,TRADOC. The insights covered a broad range of topics including leader development, security force assistance, generating force, and homeland defense. In addition, Gen. Dempsey signed separate memorandums for the commanders of SOCOM, JFCOM and HQDA requesting support as the Army moves forward with implementing recommendations derived from UQ09 insights.
Why is this important to the Army?
The challenges of today and the uncertainties of future operational environments require an integrated approach to force development. The Army, Joint, and Interagency communities need to better understand how they can mutually enable, sustain and support diverse military and civilian partners across the full spectrum of operations.
What's planned for the future?
The theme for UQ10 is "A Balanced and Prepared Army for an Uncertain Future." The purpose is to assist Army leaders to understand, visualize, describe and direct efforts to restore balance in the current force and ensure the Army remains prepared to achieve its strategic purpose as an integral element of landpower. UQ10 began in August with a planning conference at Fort Monroe, Va. The next event is a Scenario Workshop in October at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.
