Notice to Parents Of 7th-12th Graders

New Law for 2011-2012 California School Children

Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) is now a REQUIRED vaccine for 7th - 12th graders for the 2011-12 school year.

For the 2011-2012 school year California has required all children entering grades 7-12 have the Tdap vaccine. Tdap safely protects against three dangerous diseases: tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough (also called pertussis). Whooping cough has been increasing in the U.S. and continues to be widespread in California. For the 2012-13 and beyond, only students entering 7th grade will need proof of a Tdap vaccine.

Since 2005, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices and the CDC have recommended Tdap for 11-12 year-olds nationwide. This federal government recommendation has also been extended to adults.
