Course Title: | Real Estate Acquisition Under the Uniform Act: An Overview |
Description:
The Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act of 1970 (Uniform Act), is the basis for Federally-funded real estate acquisition programs. The goal of this web-based course is to help participants recognize what they need to know when acquiring real estate for a Federally-funded project.
Target Audience:
Federal, state and local government employees and consultants who acquire real estate; who serve as program/project managers; who serve as grant administrators or grant recipients. This includes Acquisition and Relocation Agents, Appraisers, Realty Specialists, Attorneys, Engineers, Planners, etc.
Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Provide a basic overview of the Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act of 1970 (Uniform Act).
- Discuss the three key elements of the Uniform Act: Valuation/Appraisal, Acquisition and Relocation
- Explain how to develop an estimate of just compensation through the use of the appraisal process or appraisal waver procedure(s).
- Define the process through which real estate is aquired
- Identify relocation benefits and services required by the Uniform Act.
- List places to obtain relevant resource documents/materials.

Step 1
Log onto NHI’s online training website or register as a new user: https://www.nhi.fhwa.dot.gov/NHIUPLR/login.aspx
- Existing User? Log in with NHI User ID and Password.
- New to NHI’s website? Create an NHI User ID and Password.
NOTE: Write down your NHI Web site User ID and Password. You will need this the next time you visit the NHI Web site.
Step 2
After login to NHI site:
- Go to "Sign up for a course Session" paragraph.
- Click on Training Catalog link in paragraph.
- Go to the "Quick Search" section.
- Enter 141045 in course number box and click on search button.
- Click on the shopping cart logo:

- Go to the "Review Shopping Cart" section in the lower part of the blue section on the right side of the screen.

- Confirm the information on the next screen, print the screen and save a copy for your records and then click submit at the bottom of the screen.

Click on the course registration link contained in the email.
