A Unique and Personal Perspective on Racism and Fair Housing Issues

Local fair housing community advocates from The Fair Housing Partnership of Greater Pittsburgh led a spirited dialogue with audience members who had just viewed a production of "Dutchman." "Dutchman" is a controversial 1960's play by Le Roi Jones about race relations.  The event was the result of collaboration between the August Wilson Center for African American Culture and Bricolage.

A question was posed to those present as to whether the message resonated today or was rather dated in its approach and orientation. It served as a starting point for audience participation in a frank discussion about racial divides found in several local communities, particularly as it affects housing choice.

The conversation continues. Each evening after the production, a different community agency or organization moderates an interactive post production conversation centered on racism and its possible impact on Pittsburgh neighborhoods and communities.

The Fair Housing Partnership of Greater Pittsburgh receives grant money under HUD's Fair Housing Initiatives Program (FHIP) to combat and advocate on behalf of victims of housing discrimination.
