Conference on Standards Needs for Service Life Prediction of Polymeric & Nano-Materials For Energy Applications

Purpose:

The focus of this conference is on identifying the gaps in standards for polymeric materials, nano-materials and material systems used in energy applications.  Three areas of special interest include materials for:

Generation or Distribution
  • Examples: Photovoltaic materials, wire and cable, fuel cells.
Storage
  • Batteries for static storage, membranes, materials for batteries in transport (electric vehicles), materials for hydrogen storage, etc.
Usage
  • Increased lighting efficiency materials, light weighting using composite materials, improved water filtering materials

Special attention will be placed on understanding emergent behavior of these systems and capturing this behavior in the standards gaps analysis.  For example, does serial threshold testing provide a sufficient safety margin for multicomponent systems experiencing a dynamic environments (UV, Temperature, Humidity, stress (mechanical, electrical)).

The results of this conference will be a prioritized list of standards needs for Polymeric and Nano Materials with a specific focus on energy applications.
