$1 Coin Events
Which Presidential $1 Coin has been released most recently? During the last quarter, it was the coin that bears the name and portrait of 19th president Rutherford B. Hayes.
People who live in the area around Fremont, Ohio, celebrated the release of the new Presidential $1 Coin honoring Hayes, their hometown hero. The event was held at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center, a compound that includes Spiegel Grove and the Rutherford B. Hayes Center Library, the first Presidential library.
Spiegel Grove is the beautiful place where President Hayes retired from elected office but remained a dedicated public servant, helping veterans, improving prisons, and fighting for education for everyone.
The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential $1 Coin's obverse (front) portrays former President Hayes. The coin's reverse features a dramatic rendition of the Statue of Liberty. The inscriptions "E Pluribus Unum," "2011," and the mintmark ("P" or "D") are incused on the coin's edge.

Bingo!
Need an online game that you can play with friends? How about Bingo!
The Bingo game has been available on the Teachers' page as one of the Classroom Gadgets, made to be projected for class use. But Bingo is a fun game to play at home, so it's now on the Games page as well. Look for a new category: "Multiplayer Games."
The online version is just like regular Bingo, except that you get to choose whether to play the usual letter-number combinations or words from word lists. You can also choose how big a board to use: 3 by 3 squares (Level 1) or 5 by 5 (Levels 2 and 3). That means the goal will be to get three in a row on the small board and five on the bigger board.
Then you'll need to print out however many boards or "cards" you need for the number of players you have. A set of markers automatically prints as well. For each call, a round cage shakes up the balls for a random selection. The first player to make a complete row vertically, horizontally, or diagonally and yells "Bingo!" wins!
So, next time you have some friends or relatives over, check out the Bingo game!

Quarters of the Quarter: Vicksburg and Chickasaw
Wrapping up 2011, quarters number 9 and 10 in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program honor Mississippi's Vicksburg National Military Park and Oklahoma's Chickasaw National Recreation Area.
The USS Cairo, shown on the back of the Vicksburg National Military Park quarter, had been sunk in the Yazoo River during the Civil War. Vicksburg's citizens worked for several years to raise the gunboat and succeeded in 1964. Since the ship sank in only 12 minutes, they found tools, weapons, ship's stores, and many personal items on board, perfectly preserved. The Chickasaw National Recreation Area is also a fascinating site. In addition to its unique resources and historic culture, landscapes, and structures, its choice as a national site was greatly influenced by the work of Native Americans (the Chickasaw Nation).
