Budget information, fact sheets available online
Information about the 2010-2011 biennial budget is available on the Minnesota Management & Budget’s Web site. A tracking document that summarizes the human services budget and fact sheets on changes affecting Minnesota Health Care Programs, chemical and mental health services, continuing care and children and families as well as a human services overview are available on the fact sheets page.

Meetings to provide updates on home and community-based services
Human services consumers, providers and program administrators are invited to attend legislative update meetings across the state in July. Ten forums and a series of videoconferences are being held to address changes in home and community-based services following the 2009 Minnesota Legislative session. More information, including meeting fliers and registration information, is available on the disabilities services page.

Watching children closely keeps water recreation safer
Swimming, boating and other water-related activities spell summertime fun for many Minnesotans. They can be dangerous, however, for children. To reduce that number and keep kids safe, DHS and the Department of Natural Resources have teamed up to recommend tips, which are included in a news release on water safety.

Increased use of prescription drugs and heroin seen, study finds
Addiction treatment programs and emergency rooms in the Twin Cities report increased nonmedical use of prescription narcotics and heroin, according to the recently released Drug Abuse Trends report for June 2009. The report is produced twice annually to monitor emerging patterns and trends in drug abuse and treatment. More information is available in a news release about the report.

Flu information for child care providers on Health Department Web site
Information for child care providers about the H1N1 novel influenza is available on the Minnesota Department of Health Web site. A list of frequently asked questions is featured along with a link to guidance from the Centers for Disease Control specifically for child care providers.
