Department of Defense

At Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., Sgt. Melissa Esquivel trains to become a Marine Corps drill instructor. In this exercise, Esquivel follows her instructor’s lead, repeating the drill by his example. Drill Instructor School lasts 12 weeks and accepts only the top 10 percent of Marines.

Drill instructors are given the task of transforming recruits into Marines. During Recruit Training, drill instructors prepare recruits both physically and mentally, and they push recruits to be their best.
