Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Four Coast Guardsmen put on their uniforms before performing as the Honor Guard during opening-day ceremonies at Boston's Fenway Park.

Take Me Out to the Ball Game
Department of Defense

Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Mike Souza, Petty Officer 1st Class Christopher Mullen, Petty Officer 2nd Class Matthew Holt and Petty Officer 3rd Class Scott Richards put on their uniforms in Souza’s living room in preparation for Red Sox opening day in Boston. The men performed as the Coast Guard Honor Guard during opening-day ceremonies at Fenway Park.

The Honor Guard was established in 1962, and they perform in over 1,600 ceremonies annually. They also participate in military funerals. Since members of the Honor Guard have such a public role, it is important that they learn how to maintain their uniforms and know ceremonial drill routines.
