The Life Events section of the website provides information
useful to retirees and their families. There are many events in a retiree’s
life that might affect their benefits. You can learn about them through

Marriage/Divorce – Understand
your benefits options when your marriage begins or ends.
Death of a Spouse –
Notify OPM upon the death of your spouse.
Reemployment – Learn
how reemployment may affect your benefits.
Third Party Payees – If
a retiree is unable to handle their money, a court may appoint a guardian or
the person responsible for their financial help may apply to become their “representative
payee”.
Designation of Beneficiaries
- You can choose any person to receive any life insurance and/or lump sum benefit
payable upon your death by completing a Designation of Beneficiary form.
