The Link Between Health and Academic Success
CDC's Training Tools for Healthy Schools: Promoting Health and Academic Success offers a national cadre of master trainers to provide workshops on using and implementing CDC's school health tools. These tools were previously known as the DASH Training Network, or "D-Train."
Schools play a critical role in promoting the health and safety of young people and helping them establish lifelong healthy behavior patterns. CDC offers key resources to help improve school health policies, programs, and curricula.
Workshops are open to anyone working on school health issues, including school administrators, health educators, physical educators, curriculum specialists, government agency staff and community volunteers. The trainings offer a systematic way to assess and improve school health policies and programs and also help you to revise current health or physical education curriculum.
CDC is offering a limited number of workshops on:
- School Health Index: A Self-Assessment and Planning Guide (SHI)
- Physical Education Curriculum Analysis Tool (PECAT)
- Health Education Curriculum Analysis Tool (HECAT)
- School Health Guidelines to Promote Healthy Eating and Physical Activity
Training Tools for Healthy Schools: Promoting Health and Academic Success can help schools in the following ways:
- The SHI help assess the strengths and weaknesses of their health policies and programs and develop an action plan to improve them.
- The PECAT help schools and districts revise, select, or develop a quality physical education curriculum.
- The HECAT help schools and districts revise, select, or develop a quality health education curriculum.
- The School Health Guidelines to Promote Healthy Eating and Physical Activity help schools develop, implement, and evaluate healthy eating and physical activity policies and practices for students.
