Infection Control & Immunizations
CSC HOHS emphasizes illness prevention through such services as annual flu vaccination, Hepatitis-B immunization, and updating diphtheria/tetanus immunization when appropriate.

Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) Training and Medical Surveillance

HAMMER Training provides OSHA-required Bloodborne Pathogen Initial Training for eligible employees. Certain contractors also provide BBP Training; call your training department for details. During the class, students are instructed how to receive the Hepatitis B vaccination series at the CSC health care center. Each student receives a form with sections requesting the vaccine or declining it. If an employee requests the three-shot series there are three requirements that must be met:

  1. Completion of BBP initial training. The employee’s EJTA should reflect that the employee is in the Bloodborne Pathogen Medical Surveillance Program (verify with your manager).

  2. The employee must bring their proof of BBP course completion to the CSC health care center to receive the first injection.

  3. The employee may make an appointment (preferred) or drop in for this immunization. CSC will not notify the employee to come in for the first injection, but will send reminders for the second (30 days after the first) and third shots (6 months after the first).

If the employee declines the hepatitis vaccination series in the class, but later changes their mind, they should obtain a copy of their proof of training and go to the CSC health care center to start the series. For more information on bloodborne pathogens or the Hepatitis B vaccine, call 372-0097 or 376-6000.

Hepatitis A Vaccine
This vaccine is provided for workers who are identified by their management, industrial hygiene or safety departments as having the potential of coming into contact with sewage through failure of transmission lines or equipment repairs in pits or in shop areas. Participation by the worker is voluntary and requires completion of “Request for Sewage/Waste Water Worker Services Form”.  For more information see the Sewage/Waste Water Worker Informational Guide.
