Drowning - United States, 2005–2009
During 2005–2009, overall, an average of 3,880 persons died from unintentional drowning (including boating incidents) annually in the United States. The death rate for males (2.07) was nearly four times that for females (0.54).

Characteristics of Adults Aged 55 Years and Over- United States,
2004-2007
Overall, 22.9 percent of adults aged 55 and over were in fair or poor
health, ranging from 19.6 percent of those aged 55-64 to 32.1 percent
of those aged 85 and over. Men and women were about equally likely
to be in fair or poor health in all but the oldest age group; among
adults aged 85 and over, men were more likely than women to be in fair
or poor health.
