Promising technologies often need cost-shared support to navigate the traditional "Valley of Death" for innovation—from pilot demonstration to full-scale system integration.
The Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO) works with diverse partners to develop and deploy technologies and practices that will help U.S. manufacturers succeed in global markets. Through the DOE Innovative Manufacturing Initiative, AMO is a key contributor to the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership:
-
Research & Development
Cost-shared projects accelerate the development and demonstration of technologies that can increase manufacturing efficiency, adaptability, and competitiveness in high-value markets–such as clean energy. -
Next-Generation Manufacturing Processes reinvent and collapse processing steps to lower the energy intensity of manufactured products.
-
Next-Generation Materials cut energy use and provide new functional properties that enable introduction of novel, high-performance products and expand markets.
-
Technology Deployment
The tools, training, information, and other resources available through the AMO Energy Resource Center help build energy management capacity within supply chains. Use these resources to comply with requirements of the ISO 50001 standard and the Superior Energy Performance program. Companies can also make a pledge to improve energy efficiency and become a Better Plant Partner.
With diverse partners, the office leverages state, utility, and local resources to help manufacturers save energy, reduce climate and environmental impacts, enhance workforce development, and improve national energy security and competitiveness throughout the supply chain.
