The My Air Force Life website and competitions were created as part of the Year of the Air Force Family, a year-long focus on Air Force programs highlighting the importance and commitment to the entire Air Force family: Active Duty, Guard and Reserve Airmen, Air Force civilians, families and retirees.

Throughout the year, more than 1,700 competition entries were submitted and nearly 60,000 votes were cast to select winners in each category. Prizes included digital cameras, camcorders, gift certificates, laptops and computer software.

"We were amazed at the quality and quantity of the submissions, and the interest they generated across the Air Force was fantastic," said Debbie Karnes, AFSVA Chief of Strategic Marketing Research and Analysis. "The competitions drove traffic to myairforcelife.com, gave our Air Force families an opportunity to display their talents and share their submissions with friends and family using social media," she said.

The photography competition was the most popular with nearly 1,000 entries and more than 4.25 million website hits during July.

Services officials are in the process of developing more initiatives to continue taking care of Airmen and their families that will be hosted on the website to foster a sense of Air Force Community. On the radar is a healthy recipe competition.

"We're partnering with www.usaffitfamily.com to encourage Air Force families to engage in healthy lifestyles as a family," Ms. Karnes said. "One of the ways we can enhance that effort is to solicit user-generated content from website subscribers."

There are currently more than 16,000 subscribers on myairforcelife.com. The plan is under development with a projected start in January 2011. Prizes will be awarded for the best, and healthiest, entries.
