Michael Wilk

Deputy District Director

 

Michael Wilk is the Deputy Director of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Philadelphia District Office.  In that role, Mr. Wilk assists in the delivery and management of the Agency’s financial and business development programs throughout the eastern 40 counties of Pennsylvania.

 

Mr. Wilk is a retired Colonel in the U. S. Air Force Reserve.  In that role, he was assigned to the Defense Supply Center Philadelphia, an operating unit of the Defense Logistics Agency.  Prior to his SBA appointment in March 2007, Wilk commanded the 914th Mission Support Group, Niagara Air Reserve Station, New York and the 514th Mission Support Group, McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey.  In these positions, he was responsible for all support and aerial port services to over 2,800 Wing reserve personnel as well as having infrastructure responsibility for a 1,000-acre Air Force base.  The groups he commanded, composed of eight squadrons with over 1,000 personnel assigned, were some of the largest mission support organizations in the Air Force Reserve.

 

Mr. Wilk was commissioned through the Rutgers Air Force ROTC program in 1982 and holds a Master’s Degree in Systems Management from the University Of Southern California.  His prior military career included working as a Numbered Air Force command post controller in Strategic Air Command (SAC), serving as second officer in SAC’s two-man emergency action control procedures used to launch nuclear weapons. Additionally, he commanded a communications operating location in which he supported numerous real-world world contingencies, including Operation Golden Pheasant, President Reagan’s show of force in Honduras to counter Nicaragua’s invasion.  His other assignments included commanding the 514th Communications Squadron when the unit was selected from over 40 units as the Air Force Reserve’s “Outstanding Communications-Information Organization of the Year.”  Mr. Wilk is a DESERT STORM veteran having served as Communications Flight Commander, 4402nd Reconnaissance Squadron, King Fahad Air Base, Saudi Arabia.

 

When he is not working at the SBA, Mr. Wilk resides in Tabernacle, New Jersey where he owns and operates his own small business--a 25-acre cattle farm.
