Mr. Tom Todt (pronounced “tote”) is the District Director for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Alabama District Office, which is based in Birmingham. He began his duties as District Director in June 2008.

As District Director, Mr. Todt oversees a professional staff of 11 responsible for the delivery of SBA products and programs throughout Alabama’s 67 counties, including the 7(a) and 504 loan programs, government contracting and 8(a) business development programs, and oversight of SBA’s technical assistance program resource partners (11 Small Business Development Centers, 3 Women’s Business Centers and 7 SCORE chapters).

Before his appointment as Alabama District Director, Mr. Todt served as a contractor performing geographic information systems analysis at the Alabama Army National Guard Training Center at Fort McClellan. He is a former US Army Officer, having served for almost twelve years on active duty in armor, military police and personnel administration roles, with duty assignments in Colorado, Texas, Alabama and Germany. His civilian and military awards include the Alabama Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal.

He also has twelve years experience in community and economic development, having served as Executive Director for a county-wide chamber of commerce and for a city-wide retail and commercial development entity. He also served on numerous task forces and committees related to workforce development, agribusiness and business education.

An Anniston native, Mr. Todt is a former small business person, having owned and operated a full service marketing firm in northeast Alabama, as well as having worked in several sales and marketing positions with small businesses. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from the University of Alabama, and is a graduate of the US Chamber of Commerce Institutes for Organization Management, and of Leadership Calhoun County. His wife of 37 years, the former Linda Mallory, is also an Anniston native, and they have two children. They are all active in their church’s activities.

A former Kiwanian, Mr. Todt served in several club officer positions, as well as district Lieutenant Governor.
