For the week ended September 01, 2012:
U.S. coal production totaled approximately 20.1 million short tons (mmst)
This production estimate is 0.8 percent lower than last week's estimate and 6.1 percent lower than the production estimate in the comparable week in 2011
Coal production east of the Mississippi River totaled 8.0 mmst
Coal production west of the Mississippi River totaled 12.1 mmst
U.S. year-to-date coal production totaled 682.5 mmst, 5.4 percent lower than the comparable year-to-date coal production in 2011
EIA revises its first-round weekly estimates of State-level coal production using Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) quarterly coal production data. After revision, EIA's State-level weekly numbers summed for the quarter, match the MSHA data.
Data for 2011 through March 2012 are revised to match MSHA. Data for April 2012 through September 2012 are preliminary EIA estimates.
