Make the prospect feel comfortable
Staff Sergeant Roger Whaley talks about meeting with prospects.
My name is Staff Sergeant Roger Whaley; I'm a U.S. Army recruiter, I'm from Orangeburg, South Carolina. When a prospect first walks through the door I sit down with the prospect, I make the prospect feel comfortable. My next question is 'what is he want, what is he looking for, is it full-time, is it part-time, is it Army Reserve, is it regular Army.' And you know what situation is he in right now. I make sure that the applicant is physically qualified; I also make sure that the applicant is morally qualified.
From there we set them up with ASVAB Test we get their scores and we see exactly what they're qualified for. I take that score, I tell them ok; this is what you qualify for. Is this something that interests you? I go by the applicant and his ASVAB score to get him something that he's interested with. So I let the applicant lead the way and find out what he like best. Then we set him up where they go to MEPS to process to take their physical and finish their in-process.
One of the perceptions about a recruiters is, a recruiters just want you to signed up but the actuality of the thing is the recruiter is, I say, more a career counselor he wants what's best for you and is willing to do anything to help you achieve your goals in life.
