LINAC
Shutdown Weeks 3 & 4
- No Neutron Therapy Facility operations last two weeks. Expected return of NTF operations on week of 27th of July
- Column ceramics resurfacing completed Electrodes are in. Continued refurbishing of ion source in progress
- 480V panel breaker/Wiring replacement on Low Energy (LE) stations 4 & 5 & test station 7 completed
- Quadrupole power supply Card upgrade completed.
- Power strip replacement on all LE stations completed
- Continued LE and High Energy (HE) RF station cleaning and component maintenance
- Klystron RF station 8 and LRF7 operations for MTA tests took place
- Opened tank 5 for DT20 replacement.
- DT20 has been replaced and rough alignment is in progress
- General vacuum maintenance in progress on vacuum pumps. LE ion pumps showing signs of needing to be replaced
- NTF vacuum pump and valve will be replaced
- Trying to locate and repair vacuum leaks in LE tanks 1-3
- H- Dome and Pit cleaning in progress
Booster
Shutdown Weeks 3 & 4
- Correction element upgrade ~80% with magnet removal/installation
- 30 out of 36 magnets installed. 28 Surveyed
- Booster Period 11-23 under vacuum.
- Booster Period 24-2, 7-10 should be under vacuum at end of the day.
- Old correctors in period 3-6 (6 magnets) still in place and under vacuum. Will pull in about two weeks.
- 50% of corrector wire pulls completed. Will finish next week.
- Cable termination and connections in progress
- New Magnet Cooling Manifold installed at Long 14.
- RF Cavity 14 tuner repair completed. Will pulse test today.
- East Gallery LCW Cooling pipe upgrade 95% completed. Pressure test overnight with nitrogen.
- GMPS upgrade ~60% complete
- Making Wiring connections on switchgear and Transformers
- Work on GMPS 1 & 2 also in progress
New Sink Hole patched
- Sump Discharge sinkhole formed last weekend in East Booster Lot. (Found on Monday 4/6). Repairs made yesterday. Need to pressure test today
- Will also look at ICW valve leak in east Booster Lot
Antiproton Source
Accumulator 4-8GHz DP Kicker Upgrade: ~50% complete
- All beam line components are in place and final alignment is done. Pump down & leak check underway today. The A50-A60 bake will follow next week when baking system modifications are done. A40 bake is complete
Debuncher Septum Magnet Replacement: 50% complete
- Old magnet removed and inspected. Fatigue crack in braze joint was the cause of our problems. New magnet is in place awaiting final alignment
IB7 (AP2 dipole magnet) Replacement: 5% complete
- For ALARA reasons, this work will begin in August. As-found position survey was done this week
Other Work
- Maintenance work on various RF systems continues
- LCW leaks being addressed
- Replacement of old drive couplings for movable stands to prevent failures
- Alignment of tanks today (?)
- Sump pumps in Transport enclosure replaced
- Rad survey of rings/beam lines and inductance measurements of magnets
- Power supply maintenance – LCW hoses, filter capacitors, etc.
- Lithium lens 10mm-2 LCW leak repairs
- Remote LCW filling system for lens
- Target SEM work continues
Main Injector

- Civil construction progressing
- Tunnel boring: 5 of 18 holes completed

- All holes cut
- Conduit supports installed
- Eight conduits installed and grouted

MI-40 Kickers On Schedule
- Abort kickers moved, new beam valve installed, installing new kicker stands
MI-8 multiwires, MI-52 e cloud, collimator masks: all on schedule for work beginning later in the shutdown.
Recycler
Recycler
- Pot RR129 (i.e. MI-10 injection kicker)
- Move 6 magnets (80% complete)
- 5 magnets have been moved
- HLS installation at MI-10 (possibly)

- Vacuum maintenance
- Not started
- Key vacuum tech unavailable for 3-4 weeks
- May limit the extent of the work done

Electron Cooling
- Pelletron maintenance (20% complete)
- Chains (2), sheaves (4) have been removed
- Flush Water/Glycol skid (and magnets) (10-15% complete)
- Water lines have been flushed
- One magnet (out of 3) has been flushed
- NMR probe replacement (50% complete)
- Probes in the 45 bend magnets have been replaced
- Recovered nominal operation
- One (out of two) probe in the 90 bend magnets has been replaced
- Tuning in these magnets is tricky (and can take a lot of time)
- Recycler Pump Out
- Vented regions show stable vacuum/pressure
- Looks like the MI-40 region could be pumped out late next week or early the following week
- Depends on progress of the work installing conduits, etc…
Tevatron

TeV at LN2 Temperatures
- Continued support AD/MSD for A3 & D3 repairs; E3 warming up to room temperature
- FRIG A2 low-pressure heat exchanger helium-air leak found; weld crack repairs planned
- Planned power outages went well except for some controls issues resolved by AD/Controls
- Continued ringwide vacuum pump maintenance, repairs, and pumpdown of various components to assure stable Tevatron LN2 Mode Operations
- 8 wet engine flywheels replaced, 4/5 wet engine motors replaced, 12/24 wet engine overhauled, 4/6 IHI cold compressors replaced
- Mycom Compr Benshaw starter modifications, 7/8 (TEV) completed
- Mycom Compr relief valves replaced (1/8)
- Ongoing numerous FRIG/Compr controls/instrumentation maintenance/repairs
- CHL at room temperature for maintenance (equip greasing/oil changes, NRL Niagara aftercooler cleaning-50% done, relief valves inspection/testing, instr. repairs, NRL R22 precooler condenser fixed. Liquid nitrogen supply to Tevatron relying on Linde deliveries (~3 per day) to CHL’s 150,000 gallons of tank storage

- Klystron cooling switched to Comfort Chilled Water System (Chillers1, 5, &HX2) due to 55LCW pumps/system scheduled shutdown
- #3 Chiller-Setting up condenser cleaning work to be completed next week with Eagle Services (New Contractor)
- HE9 plate frame heat exchanger-scheduled for cleaning next week by Eagle Services
- #4 Chiller-on schedule for cleaning later next week
- Additional chemical cleanings have been required due to calcium deposits & longer run period from last shut down (2007)
- 55 LCW LP4 & 5-VFD Drive Replacements, now through 7/17
- Cooling Tower piping repairs to HE1 (Booster) and HE9 (Pbar) scheduled for 7/13, 7/14 & 15
- CUB Shut Down set for 7/25 -FDR 42- Electrical/ HV & Sunday 7/26-mechanical maintenance to include inspection of tower water tank (Fdr 40 PM for Linac/X Gallery)
Other Work and Comments
- BTE new sink hole in parking lot-break in BGE Sump discharge line common to recent Break under BTE Transformer YBE1A.
- BTE –ICW leak in same area as sump discharge line leak
- ICW water main repair-the section of 14” line @Roads A1/A2 being replaced with a 12’ HDPE line by directional boring (in progress)
- Zebra Mussel status-minimal infestation findings in MI and TeV Ponds/Intakes
- ICW Site Wide Flush-mobilization & tentative start on 8/1 & 8/3 thru 8/6
- Zebra Mussel Treatment Site Wide-Friday AM 8/7 to Sat AM (24 hrs)
- Casey’s Pond Shut Down- Tentative schedule for Sat 7/25 for 8-10 hrs to inspect/clean ICW sump with Divers-ICW valve configuration to start @ 6AM to provide FCC ICW from C-4 Pump House
