Notice of Closure To Livestock Grazing Use
For protection of the soil and reestablishment of perennial vegetation on the public lands in the Cottonwood Allotment, I hereby exclude the grazing by any kind of livestock within the burned portions of this allotment in the following areas effective March 01, 2012 through September 30, 2014:
Cottonwood Allotment:
T24N R40E Sections: 4, 5, 6, 8, 9
T24N R40E Section: 32
The area is located in Lander County within the Bureau of Land Management’s Battle Mountain District area of administration.
This closure is effective immediately and will remain in effect until September 30, 2014 or until vegetative objectives are attained. These areas will be monitored to determine if additional growing season rest, deferment, and/or temporary change in grazing use is needed to ensure successful reestablishment of the perennial vegetation and establishment of seeded species.
This closure is issued as a final decision, in full force and effect pursuant to Title 43, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Subparts 4110.3-3(b) and 4160.3(f). Bertrand and Jill Paris will be notified of the date that the closed portion of the Cottonwood Allotment will be open to grazing.
All owners of livestock affected by this closure will refrain from grazing livestock on the affected lands and will continue to keep all livestock off the above lands during the designated time period. During this time period the Field Manager, Bureau of Land Management, Mount Lewis Field Office, or his authorized representative, may proceed to impound, remove and dispose of any livestock found in violation of this notice pursuant to 43 CFR Subpart 4150.4.

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The Bureau is also one of a handful of agencies that collects more revenue than it spends. In FY 2012, nearly $5.7 billion will be generated on lands managed by the BLM, which operates on a $1.1 billion budget. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands.
