Convection, associated with a disturbance
along the ITCZ, became consolidated a short distance to the south of the Gulf of
Tehuantepec on 19 May. Continuity suggests that this disturbance was related to a westward-moving
tropical wave that entered the
eastern north Pacific in mid-May.
For a couple of days, the disturbance moved westward without significant development.
Organization of the cloud pattern increased early on the 21st, and it is estimated that
Tropical Depression One-E
formed at 0600 UTC 21 May, about 350 n mi south of Manzanillo, Mexico. The
cyclone
moved westward over the waters of the Pacific with little change in
intensity for the next day or two, until late on the 22nd when
convection decreased and the organization began to deteriorate.
The depression dissipated around 0600 UTC 23 May.
