Seventh Air Force commander
9/13/2012 - OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- On September 18th we celebrate the rich heritage and vision that in 1947 established the U.S. Air Force as an independent service, providing our nation with the distinctive and enduring capabilities that Airmen bring to the fight.
Seventh Air Force preceded the founding of our Air Force by seven years, having originally been activated in November 1940 as the Hawaiian Air Force. As the oldest Numbered Air Force, we share the long and proud history that Airmen have built, their legacy of valor, and a tradition of honor based on integrity, service, and excellence. Today, Airmen across the globe continue to build on that proud tradition, including over 8,000 Airmen stationed in the Republic of Korea.
Sixty years ago our predecessors fought valiantly in defense of their Korean Allies, and today we continue to stand together maintaining the fragile armistice, deterring aggression from North Korea, and ready to answer the call to fight tonight. As members of Korea's Airpower Team, we work together to accomplish our mission and fulfill the vision of our service's founding Airmen. My thanks to you and your families for everything you do to keep us the world's strongest and best Air Force! Happy 65th Birthday, United States Air Force!
