The number of offenders entering and exiting probation and parole is covered along with the turnover of these populations. Characteristics of adults on probation or parole such as sex, race, status of supervision, type of offense, most serious offense, maximum sentence to incarceration, type of release from prison, tracking by a global positioning system (GPS), and sex offenders are also provided. The number of adult offenders under community supervision declined by 2% (probation 1.7% and parole 0.3%) during 2010; a loss of 66,700 resulting in a total of about 4,055,5000 offenders on probation and 840,700 on parole.
