Dr. Linda L. Curtis, a native of Indiana, taught in Australia and Fort Wayne, Ind., prior to joining the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA). She taught in Germany and Belgium until she assumed various roles as a DoDEA administrator. She served as assistant superintendent, principal and assistant principal until being named Superintendent of Schools in 2001 in the Isles District and Brussels District. During this time she supervised and provided education support to schools in England, Iceland, the Azores, Bahrain, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
In 2006 she was named Deputy Director of the Department of Defense Dependents Schools - Europe (DoDDS-Europe), serving 45,000 students in 81 schools across Europe.
Curtis was named the Area Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment in 2009, for the DoDEA-Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and DoDDS-Cuba. In April 2011, she was assigned a collateral duty as senior civilian to manage the day-to-day business operation for DDESS and DoDDS-Cuba. In September 2011, Curtis was detailed to the Senior Executive Service (SES) position as Acting Director, DDESS and DoDDS-Cuba, serving 28,000 students in 66 schools across the United States. She supervises a budget of over $100 million.
She earned her Bachelor's of Science degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., two Master's degrees from Indiana University at Fort Wayne in Administration and in Elementary Education. In 2006, she earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Argosy University in Sarasota, Fl.
Curtis was a founding member in developing the DoDEA Community Strategic Plan in 1996 and continues on this leadership committee. She promotes high student achievement for all students and is actively involved in strengthening math education and technology across the curriculum.
Her distinguished career includes recognition as Principal of the Year, European Congress of American Parents, Teachers and Students; Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) Leadership Award, Germany Chapter; and the Phi Delta Kappa Distinguished Service in Public Administration Award.
