February 2011: MEETING
The North Carolina Smart Grid Technical Forum, a gathering of public, private, and academic leaders sponsored by the North Carolina A&T State University, Center for Energy Research and Technology (CERT) and DOE, will be holding a meeting “A Process for Progress: The Smart Grid Investment Grant Program and Economic Development” on March 16, 2011 in Greensboro, NC.

October 2010 -- Energy Assurance Planning Bulletin, Vol. 1 Issue 4. This quarter's issue highlights the DOE/OE 10-Step Energy Assurance Planning Framework and upcoming DOE/OE Regional Exercises.

October 2010 -- On September 30, 2010, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approved the Office of Electricity’s (OE) Information Collection Request Renewal (OMB CONTROL NUMBER 1910-5149). This collection is valid until December 31, 2011, at which time OE will re-assess reporting needs and submit a new collection request to OMB covering the remainder of Recovery Act projects’ life cycles.

September 2, 2010 -- The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) issued Guidelines for Smart Grid Cyber Security, a product of the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP) – a public-private partnership largely funded by the Department of Energy (DOE). It includes information for businesses and organizations to use as they craft strategies to protect the modernizing power grid from attacks, malicious code, and other cyber threats. It is the result of two formal public reviews and numerous workshops and teleconferences over the past 17 months. The guidelines will facilitate organization-specific Smart Grid cyber security strategies focused on prevention, detection, response and recovery.  

July 23, 2010-- The Department of Energy (DOE) invites public comment on its request to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to extend for three years the emergency Information Collection Request Title: OE Recovery Act Financial Assistance Grants, OMB Control No. 1910–5149 that DOE is submitting to OMB pursuant to the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995. Comments due on or before August 23, 2010. 

May 28, 2010-- Federal Register Notice on the DOE’s invitation for public comment on its intent to request the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to extend for three years the emergency Information Collection Request Title: OE Recovery Act Financial Assistance Grants, OMB Control No. 1910–5149 that DOE is developing for submission to OMB pursuant to the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995. Comments due on or before July 26, 2010.
