John Hale III

Deputy Associate Administrator

John Hale III is the Deputy Associate Administrator for the Office of Capital Access (“OCA”) at the U.S. Small Business Administration (“SBA”). He manages the office’s operations and initiatives designed to enhance customer service for its internal and external stakeholders. The primary focus of this effort is to improve the agency’s strategic partnership with its lenders, thereby increasing the access to capital for entrepreneurs and small businesses.

Hale is responsible for the enhancing the customer service of OCA’s business units; lender oversight, loan processing centers and financial assistance. He is engaging the agency’s lender partners to identify opportunities for the SBA to design efficient programs that lenders embrace with enthusiasm while optimizing credit quality.

Prior to joining the SBA in January 2011, Hale worked in several capacities at two super regional banks: as credit analyst, as internal consultant focused on re-engineering processes and evaluating capital budget projects, as Vice President middle-market loan officer and as Vice President special assets officer. In addition, he worked for an internationally renowned turnaround consulting firm serving as a Chief Restructuring Officer or interim CFO for numerous underperforming small businesses and middle market companies. Most recently he worked as an Engagement Manager serving the financial services industry for Jefferson Wells, a business consulting firm.

Hale holds a Master of Science in finance from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Michigan.
