BOSTON - A Dominican man pleaded guilty in federal court late yesterday to returning unlawfully to the United States after having been deported.
Robert Moiset Lara, 44, of the Dominican Republic, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Douglas P. Woodlock to being found unlawfully in the United States after deportation on July 5, 2011.
Lara entered the United States from the Dominican Republic on an immigrant visa in 1986, but was ordered deported in July 2002. In September 2002, he in fact was deported from the United States to the Dominican Republic, but in July 2011, ICE agents found and arrested him in East Boston. Lara had not received the consent or approval of U.S. officials prior to re-entering the country.
Sentencing is scheduled for April 24, 2012. Lara faces up to 20 years in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.
United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz; Bruce M. Foucart, Special Agent in Charge of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations in Boston; Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis; and Plymouth County Sheriff Joseph D. McDonald, Jr. made the announcement today. The case is being handled by a prosecutor from Ortiz’s Major Crimes Unit.
