(Reuters) - Omega-3 fatty acids, found in oily fish such as sardines and salmon and once touted as a way of staving off heart disease and stroke, don't help after all, according to a Greek study. Based on a review and analysis of previous clinical trials including more than 68,000 participants, Greek researchers whose report appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association said the fatty acids have no impact on overall death rates, deaths from heart disease, or strokes and heart attacks.

The dream, for Steve Harvey, was always late-night: the monologue, the desk, the studio band. It was the pinnacle for a successful stand-up comic, and Harvey had been very successful. "That was something I always wanted since 'Original Kings of Comedy,'" Harvey said recently from his new home base in Chicago. "You know, I just saw Jay Leno and Conan and Letterman and now Kimmel, and these boys that I've known for years and that are stand-ups, and you go to late-night so you can do a monologue and you can talk about politics.

(Reuters) - The Seattle Seahawks were awarded a controversial final-play touchdown to beat a shellshocked Green Bay Packers 14-12 on Monday as the NFL's replacement officials were again thrust into the spotlight over a contentious call. Trailing 12-7 with seconds on the clock, the Seahawks faced fourth down on the Packers' 24-yard line when rookie quarterback Russell Wilson heaved a 'Hail Mary' pass into the endzone that was caught simultaneously by Green Bay's M.D. Jennings and Seattle receiver Golden Tate.

It was back to school -- again -- for hundreds of thousands of Chicago Public Schools students this morning, including Carter and McClaran Shirley who were excited to get back with their friends. Carter, a sixth grader at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, had just become accustomed to switching teachers for different subjects when the Chicago Teachers Union went on strike, suspending school for a week and a half. His sister, McClaran, is in seventh grade. Their mom, Liz Shirley, said she kept her kids busy with math workbooks as her second-grader, Durham, practiced his handwriting.

Finally, Illinois residents can shop for electricity the same way they shop for groceries — by comparing prices. For the first time since Illinois opened itself to electric competition more than a decade ago, a website launched this month by the Illinois Commerce Commission allows consumers to see how much Commonwealth Edison and Ameren are charging per kilowatt-hour and if they could save by switching to a competitor. Consumer advocates say the site is a game changer, clarifying what has been a frustrating and confounding process.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's dismissal of almost half the U.S. electorate in a secretly recorded video has hurt his image, although it may not determine how people vote on November 6. A Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Wednesday showed that more than two in five registered voters, or 43 percent, viewed Romney less favorably after an excerpt of the video was shown to them online. In the video, Romney portrayed Democratic President Barack Obama's supporters - which he said was 47 percent of the electorate - as people who live off government handouts and do not "care for their lives.

New reports that rice products may contain "worrisome levels" of carcinogenic arsenic - especially from rice grown in certain states - have American pediatricians offering new advice for parents feeding children. "I think a prudent position for the next few months or years ... is that parents avoid rice or at least avoid any rice that comes from Texas, Louisiana or Missouri, and when in doubt go with barley or oatmeal," Dr. Philip Landrigan, a professor of pediatrics at Mount Sinai Hospital School of Medicine, said on CBS' "This Morning.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - As Americans debate what is most to blame for the nation's obesity epidemic, researchers say they have the strongest evidence yet that sugary drinks play a leading role and that eliminating them would, more than any other single step, make a huge difference. Three studies published Friday in the New England Journal of Medicine represent the most rigorous effort yet to see if there is a link between sugar-sweetened beverages and expanding U.S. waistlines. "I know of no other category of food whose elimination can produce weight loss in such a short period of time," said Dr. David Ludwig, director of the New Balance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center at Boston Children's Hospital, who led one of the studies.

ATLANTA (Reuters) - Soon to be without a house, Rory McIlroy again showed he feels completely at home in the PGA Tour's FedExCup playoffs as he stayed on track on Friday to secure the season-long title and the bonus of $10 million. The globe-trotting world number one, who is selling his $3.2 million mansion in Northern Ireland because he hardly ever stays there, carded a two-under-par 68 in the Tour Championship second round to remain atop the FedExCup points standings. Though Jim Furyk moved one stroke clear of the elite 30-man field in the season-ending tournament after firing a superb 64, McIlroy would have to finish 12th or worse on Sunday to give the American a chance of clinching the playoff title.

Members of the retiree group AARP booed and heckled Ryan as he laid out the Republican ticket's case for repealing President Barack Obama's healthcare law and partially privatizing the Medicare health plan.
