The MicroBooNE Experiment

Located at Fermilab, the experiment will build and operate a large 170 ton Liquid Argon Time Projection Chamber (LArTPC) located along the Booster neutrino beam line. The experiment will measure low energy neutrino cross sections and investigate the low energy excess events observed by the MiniBooNE experiment. The detector serves as the necessary next step in a phased program towards the construction of massive kiloton scale LArTPC detectors.

Milestones:

The experiment was proposed to the Fermilab PAC in Oct 2007 and received Stage-1 approval in July 2008.

  • October 2009: CD-0 approval
  • June 2010: CD-1 approval
  • September 2011: CD-2/3a approval
  • March 2012: CD-3b approval
