Industry Awards Program

Safety Award For Excellence-All Winners

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation, and Enforcement gave the first SAFE Award in January 1983. This award recognizes and commends companies that expend extra effort to conduct operations in a safe and pollution free manner by adhering to all regulations, employing trained and motivated personnel, and going the extra mile to enhance safety and environmental protection. The objectives of the program are to:

bullet Elevate awareness of safety & pollution prevention.
bullet Encourage voluntary compliance.
bullet Provide public with better understanding of professionalism of OCS operators.
bullet Encourage excellence in safety & pollution prevention.
bullet Demonstrate that safe practices enhance protection of personnel.

In past years, SAFE award winners were notified in advance that they had won. However, in this new format, only the top five nominees will be announced prior to the luncheon. Winners in each of three categories were announced at the luncheon. Look here for the new selection criteria and other details regarding the SAFE Award program.

*The annual industry awards program and luncheon began in 1999. The 1999 program presented awards to industry which were actually earned in 1998. That remains the case today: for example, the 2005 program presented awards that were earned for performance in calendar year 2004.
