Interagency Group on Insular Areas




The IGIA shall solicit information and advice from the elected leaders of the U.S. Insular Areas of Guam, American Samoa, the United States Virgin Islands and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and make recommendations to the President annually, or as appropriate, on the establishment or implementation of Federal programs concerning these Insular Areas.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar today greeted and spoke about the Department’s efforts to empower insular communities as Chief executives and Congressional leaders from each of the US insular areas gathered this morning for the 2012 Interagency Group on Insular Areas (IGIA) meeting with senior-level representatives from over twenty Federal agencies to discuss issues concerning American Samoa (AmSam), the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), Guam (GU), and the U.S Virgin Islands (USVI). The meeting was convened at the White House Eisenhower Executive Office Building.  More
