Congress dictates NWS’s budget structure which is subject to change with each appropriation. NOAA and NWS formulate appropriate Program Codes corresponding to the budget authority established by the Appropriations Bill. Project Codes are then created by NWS CFO2 to further identify and track obligations. Each Project Code must map to only one Program Code. However, each Program Code may have multiple Project Codes depending on our accounting needs. Task Codes are established to further discern obligations. Though a Project Code may only relate to one Program Code, Project Codes may have multiple Task Codes.
