Introduction to your new MMC

If you are looking to apply for a Merchant Mariner Credential here is where you want to start. The above links will help you in regards to obtaining a Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC).

On April 15, 2009, "ALL" US Mariners are required to apply for a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) in order to verify identification.  We will be combining all Merchant Mariner Documents into one Merchant Mariner Credential which looks similar to a passport.

In order to avoid delays in obtaining your credential we have developed a checklist to help you complete this process. Please review the checklist to ensure that you do not miss or leave anything out of your application.

Under the new provisions of the Merchant Mariner Credential regulations, which became effective on April 15, 2009, Mariners will be able to submit credential applications by mail to one of the 17 Regional Examination Centers (REC) located throughout the nation. This will save you time and money.

If you are looking to sail on the high seas, American rivers, or great lakes you are at the right place.  It does not matter if you want to be a Captain, Engineer, or Mate you will find all you need on this page.  Below is a link that explains the transformation from multiple documents to one Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC).

If you require any further assistance then please feel free to contact our Customer Service Center.
