Consumer Advisory Council

The Consumer Advisory Council (CAC), which existed from 1976 until 2011, advised the Federal Reserve Board on the exercise of its responsibilities under the Consumer Credit Protection Act and on other matters in the area of consumer financial services.  The Council membership represented interests of consumers, communities, and the financial services industry. Under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, the CAC was dissolved on July 21, 2011, the designated transfer date upon which certain consumer protection functions were transferred from the Board to the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The Dodd-Frank Act authorized the Bureau to establish a Consumer Advisory Board to advise and consult on the exercise of the Bureau's functions.
