History

Iowa was established as a Territory on June 12, 1838.  The District Court of Iowa was established on March 3, 1845, but did not become effective until Iowa's admission as the 29th State on December 28, 1846.  On July 20, 1882, the District of Iowa was divided into two separate Federal Judicial Districts, the Northern District of Iowa and the Southern District of Iowa.  The following is a listing of former United States Marshals for the Territory of Iowa, the District of Iowa, and the Southern District of Iowa.
