Electric Quarterly Reports (EQRs)
1. What is Electric Quarterly Reports?
Electric Quarterly Reports (EQR) is a report that must be filed quarterly by public utilities. The EQR summarizes data on electric power contracts and wholesale power sales during the most recent calendar quarter.
2. What is the EQR filing schedule?
The EQR submission covers all services the public utility provides in accordance with the following schedule:
- For the period from January 1 through March 31, file by April 30;
- For the period from April 1 through June 30, file by July 31;
- For the period July 1 through September 30, file by October 31; and,
- For the period October 1 through December 31, file by January 31.

4. How do I request an EQR filing extension?
Official communications to FERC on a specific EQR extension must be sent to:

5. How do I know if I have filed successfully?
The Respondent and Agent email addresses provided in the Filer ID Data will both receive a confirmation email. Usually the confirmation will be received by the next business day. However, due to filing volume, submissions made on or close to the quarterly deadline can be delayed.

6. With past EQRs, I received a total of (3) emails; a Notice of Receipt; a Notice of Acknowledgement; and a Notice of Acceptance. After I file my EQR report, is the FERC confirmation emails the only acknowledgement I should expect form the system?
Yes. You will receive only one EQR email which confirms receipt of your EQR filing. The edit checks which are done at FERC for eFiling (the first two are automated and the third one is performed manually) are all done on your computer in the EQR system before the EQR file can be submitted to FERC.
7. Are EQR reports available online?
Yes. As of January 31, 2003, an Accessing Data was launched and shows the EQR filings made electronically. They are zip files that can be downloaded and printed.
8. In the event of a program error, how can I locate and send my eqr.log file to FERC?
The eqr.log file should be on your computer in the directory where you installed the eqr software. To find the file:

9. Do I need to file for a company with no contract or transaction data to report?
Yes. The only data you need to enter is the ID Data (Respondent, Seller, and Agent). If you have no current Contracts or Service Agreements, you may leave the Contract and Contract Product section blank. There is no need to write that you had no transactions (and contracts, if applicable); just leave those portions of the system empty.
10. Do power marketers need to file an EQR?
Power marketers that sell electricity for resale at wholesale prices are considered to be "public utilities" under the Federal Power Act. Consequently, power marketers must file an EQR.
11. If an entity with market-based rate authority changes hands, which company is responsible for reporting the EQR for that quarter?
Both are. Each company files the EQR for the portion of the quarter during which it owned the entity.
12. Is there a way to export the data errors that we receive to an excel spreadsheet, when uploading FERC filings since it is difficult to print and verify 100-800 pages of data errors?

13. Do PURPA Qualifying Facilities have to file EQRs?
QFs do not have to file an EQR if they are only selling power under a QF contract. If they are selling power to others or even if they are selling power to a utility outside the QF contract, those sales are subject to Part 35 of the Commission's regulations, and the generator must file.
