WIESBADEN, GERMANY — August 17, 2011 — Acting Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Director Marilee Fitzgerald has selected Dr. Nancy Bresell to temporarily serve as the DoDEA Principal Deputy Director and Associate Director for Education.

During the 90-day career broadening assignment, Dr. Bresell will be responsible for the instructional and educational programs for DoDEA's 194 schools located throughout the world.

She will also oversee personnel operations involving more than 13,000 DoDEA employees who support military families overseas and in the United States and her territories.

Dr. Bresell will report for duty in Arlington, Va. on Aug. 18. DoDEA will begin recruitment for a permanent Deputy Director in the near future.

Dr. Bresell is the current Area Director for Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) Europe. Having previously served as the Director of the DoDDS Pacific schools, Dr. Bresell will bring her keen awareness of the operations, opportunities and issues in both the Pacific and European theaters to her new assignment.

Dr. Dell McMullen, Kaiserslautern District Superintendent, has been named as the acting senior leader for DoDDS Europe during this 90-day assignment.

Dr. McMullen has been in Europe for two years. Prior to her assignment in Kaiserslautern, she was the Superintendent of the Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools at Fort Benning, Ga. Community Schools and later, was named as the Superintendent of the Georgia/Alabama District.

DoDEA consists of the Department of Defense Dependents Schools located overseas, and the Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools located in the U.S. and its territories and possessions. DoDEA provides education to eligible DoD military and civilian dependents from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. DoDEA also provides support and resources to Local Education Activities throughout the U.S. that serve children of military families.
