The DoDEA Communications Office initiates and manages DoDEA's communications and outreach efforts worldwide. The office coordinates press relations, internal information programs and communication with students, parents, teachers, school administrators and the public.

Dr. Linda L. Curtis
ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA — May 9, 2011 — On May 9, Acting Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Director Marilee Fitzgerald assigned Dr. Linda L. Curtis to collateral duties in which she will temporarily serve as the senior civilian responsible for managing operations and directing activities for the Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and DoDDS-Cuba.
Dr. Curtis assumes these additional responsibilities from the departing DDESS Area Director, Dr. Bruce Jeter. Dr. Jeter was recently selected to participate in the Ministry of Defense Advisors Program (MoDA), which matches senior Department of Defense (DoD) civilians with partner-identified requirements in Iraq and Afghanistan. The advisors, who deploy for up to two years, exchange expertise with foreign counterparts in similar defense specialties.
Curtis was assigned to DDESS Headquarters in 2009 as the Area Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment. During her 60-day detail as the DDESS Area Director, she will also maintain her primary duties.
Prior to joining DoDEA, Curtis, a native of Indiana, taught in schools in Australia and Fort Wayne. She also taught in DoDEA schools in Germany and Belgium and eventually became a DoDEA school administrator, serving as an assistant school principal, school principal, assistant superintendent, and Superintendent of Schools in the Isles District.
In 2006 she was named Deputy Director of the Department of Defense Dependents Schools - Europe (DoDDS-Europe), serving 36,000 students in 81 schools across Europe.
Dr. Curtis earned her Bachelor's of Science degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., and two Master's degrees from Indiana University at Fort Wayne in Administration and in Elementary Education. In 2006, she earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Argosy University in Sarasota, Fla.
DoDEA plans, directs, coordinates, and manages pre-kindergarten through 12th grade education programs for DoD dependents who would otherwise not have access to a high-quality, public education. DoDEA schools are located in Europe, the Pacific, the United States, Cuba, Guam and Puerto Rico. DoDEA also provides support and resources to Local Education Activities throughout the U.S. that serve children of military families.
