ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA — September 30, 2008 — DoDEA's Educational Partnership Branch launched a new site, http://militaryk12partners.dodea.edu. The site focuses on providing information directly related to the work of educators and administrators in military-connected school systems. This site replaces the militarystudent website, formerly owned and maintained by the Department of Defense, with expanded and re-focused content.

The new site provides a wealth of information about resources available to schools around the country that serve military families. The site also provides information for the military's school liaisons to assist schools in obtaining additional resources.

"The launch of Military K-12 Partners provides a great way for us to share information about resources that will help military-connected schools serve the children of our Armed Forces," said Kathy Facon, Chief of DoDEA's Educational Partnerships Branch. "We hope people will continue to visit to see what new resources we've posted and also to share ideas and actions that are already taking place."

The Department of Defense Education Activity has more than 60 years of experience supporting military students around the world. Today, of the 1.2 million children of military service members, approximately 80,000 (or less than ten percent) attend Department of Defense schools. The rest attend public or private schools or are home schooled.

Force structure changes within the military have created an urgent and ongoing need to enrich and expand partnerships with military-connected communities throughout the nation. Through the Educational Partnership, DoDEA is committed to ensuring that the thousands of students being relocated throughout the nation because of these actions receive the best possible educational opportunities.

DoDEA plans, directs, coordinates, and manages the education programs for Department of Defense dependents who would otherwise not have access to a high-quality public education. DoDEA consists of the Department of Defense Dependents Schools located overseas, and the Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools located in the United States and its territories and possessions. DoDEA provides education to eligible DoD military and civilian dependents from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. DoDEA also provides support and resources to Local Education Activities throughout the U.S. that serve children of military families.
