ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA — January 26, 2006 — The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) will join schools around the country in the observation of March as Music In Our Schools Month (MIOSM®).

As part of the month-long celebration, the 22nd Annual World's Largest Concert (WLC) will be broadcast to an international television audience of children and music lovers of all ages on Thursday, March 9, at 1:00 p.m. EST. The WLC will focus attention on music in our nation's schools. This event is broadcast on PBS and the Armed Forces Network to six million students, teachers, and community members. It is a highlight of the nationally celebrated Music In Our Schools Month (MIOSM).

The World's Largest Concert is endorsed by Americans for the Arts, National Association of Elementary School Principals, National Music Council, National PTA, and the National School Boards Association. Music In Our Schools Month (MIOSM®) began as a single state-wide celebration in 1973, and has grown over the decades to encompass first a day, then a week, and then in 1985 to become a month-long celebration of music in our schools. March has been officially designated by MENC: The National Association for Music Education for the observance of MIOSM, the time of year when music education becomes the focus of schools across the nation.
