OKINAWA, JAPAN — August 6, 2010 — DoDEA Pacific Director Diana Ohman announced today the selection of Jeff Arrington as Assistant Superintendent of the DoDEA Pacific Guam District.

Arrington, currently principal of Edgren High School in Misawa, Japan, brings a unique blend of educational technology, teaching and school administrative experience to the position.

He joins the DoDEA Pacific Guam District Superintendent and longtime DoDEA administrator, Dr. Steven Bloom who was hired in June to lead the system of 2,600 students, 450 educators and support staff, and an annual budget of $36 million.

For Arrington, this new assignment marks a return to Guam where he began his DoDEA tenure in 1998 as an educational technologist. He was promoted to assistant principal of Guam High School in 2000 and then principal of Lester Middle School on Okinawa, Japan in 2002. From there, Arrington joined Kadena High School—also on Okinawa—as the principal in 2005 before moving on in 2008 to serve as principal of Edgren High School.
During his DoDEA tenure, Arrington also served on accreditation and student information systems steering committees.

Arrington’s education career began in 1994 in Arkansas where his assignments included teaching and administration. He has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Arkansas. He returned to the University of Arkansas to earn a master’s in educational administration in 1996 and an educational specialist degree in 1998.

In addition to being married and a busy father of six, Arrington is currently working towards a doctorate from the University of Nebraska.

Asked about his guiding philosophy Arrington said “It’s all about highest student achievement and making data-driven decisions that reflect the individualized needs of each student.”

DoDEA Pacific Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Dr. Joyce Lutrey agreed, “Mr. Arrington is passionate about DoDEA’s goal of highest student achievement and has a documented record of raising student achievement as an instructional leader.”

Lutrey said Arrington also brings a special awareness of how the community contributes to enduring school success, “Mr. Arrington is no stranger to Guam and is highly motivated to effectively promote student development through partnerships and communication with parents, commanders, and the Guam community.”
An official start date has not been determined and is contingent upon the hiring of a successor at Edgren High School.
