PEACHTREE CITY, GA — August 18, 2010 — Dr. Linda Curtis, Area Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS)-Cuba, announced today that Ms. Cynthia Martone has been named principal of Fort Rucker Primary School, at Fort Rucker, Ala., in the Georgia/Alabama District. She replaces Mrs. Deborah Patton who recently retired. Dr. Debbie Deas had served as interim principal.

For the past four years, Martone has been an educational advisor in Qatar and Abu Dhabi. She worked in the elementary, middle and high school settings to help create student-centered learning environments. She taught elementary and middle school in Augusta, GA, and Erie, PA. Her administrative career began with the Lake and Peninsula School District where she was principal of two remote Eskimo Village schools in Kokhanok and Pedro Bay, Alaska. She also was a principal of the Holmes Road PreK-2 school, in Rochester, N.Y.

“Ms. Martone brings a wealth of educational knowledge, as well as administrative experience to Fort Rucker Primary School,” said Dr. Fordyce Stone, Georgia/Alabama District Interim Superintendent. “She exhibits a real enthusiasm and energy for working with our students.”

Martone earned her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education and her Master’s of Science Degree in Education with dual certification in elementary and secondary school administration, from Edinboro University, Edinboro, PA.
