PEACHTREE CITY, GA — June 7, 2010 — A briefing about the results of the Phase I Environmental Evaluation of both Galer Elementary and Bolden Elementary/Middle schools aboard Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Beaufort, S.C., will be held at 8:30 a.m., on Wednesday, June 9, 2010, in the Bolden Elementary/Middle School Cafeteria, for all faculty and staff.

In response to health concerns voiced by the faculty and staff of both schools, the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and the Norfolk U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) joined forces in February to evaluate air quality in the facilities.

The USACE retained RS&H, an Architectural, Engineering, Planning and Environmental Services Company, to conduct the testing. Both MCAS and the Regional South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC) office have indicated their concurrence with RS&H’s summary of their Phase 1 Report, which will be discussed at the briefing. Mr. Marc Gutterman, USACE, will also present some other pertinent data at the briefing. He will accept questions in writing prior to the briefing as well as answer any questions during the briefing.

Editor’s Note: If you are interested in having a reporter attend this briefing, please contact Gunnery Sgt. Chad McMeen with the MCAS Beaufort Public Affairs Office at 843-321-6659 to arrange an escort on the base.
