PEACHTREE CITY, GA — July 22, 2009 — Dr. Linda Curtis, Area Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Department of Defense (DoD) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDSCuba) announced today that Mrs. Rhonda Bennett has been

Bennett, who is a native of California, comes to DDESS from Lakenheath Elementary School on RAF, United Kingdom, where she served as assistant principal for the past four years. She began working for DoDEA in 2001 as a teacher at A.T. Mahan Elementary School in Keflavik, Iceland. Prior to coming to DoDDSEurope,
Bennett worked for the Fresno Unified School District in Fresno, Calif., for 13 years, teaching grades preschool through 12. She also supervised adult education school where the primary emphasis was teaching English as a Second Language.

“We are very excited to have Rhonda Bennett as the principal of Barkley Elementary School at Fort Campbell,” said Dr. Jo Blease, Kentucky district’s Fort Campbell Assistant Superintendent. “She is an experienced and dynamic educator and will continue and expand the tradition of excellence at Barkley.”

Bennett earned her Bachelor’s of Arts and her Master’s of Arts degrees from California State University, Fresno. She enjoyed a 35 year marriage to her husband Mike, who sadly passed away this year. She has two children and two grandchildren and said she is looking forward to moving back to the United States.
