PEACHTREE CITY, GA — February 11, 2011 — Dr. Linda Curtis, Area Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba) announced today that Mr. Mark Purvine has been named principal of Fort Campbell’s Wassom Middle School. Fort Campbell schools are in the DDESS/DoDDS-Cuba Kentucky District.

Originally from Eugene, OR, Purvine is currently principal of East Valley Middle School in Spokane, WA. Prior to that he served as an assistant principal of curriculum at East Valley High School, from 2002 to 2007 and has been an administrator since 1997. He began teaching and coaching in 1986 in Beaverton, OR, where he taught middle school social studies and language arts for eight years and coached multiple sports. He was named first delegate to Japan in a fledgling state/prefecture exchange, and took his family to Toyama, Japan, for a year, where he conducted research and outreach.

“Mr. Purvine brings many years of administrative experience to Wassom Middle School,” said Dr. Jo Blease, Kentucky District’s Fort Campbell Assistant Superintendent. “He is an experienced and dynamic educator and will continue and expand the tradition of excellence at Wassom.”

Purvine earned his Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in History, and a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Education in 1986, both from Eastern Washington University. He earned his Master’s of Arts Degree in Administration and Curriculum from Gonzaga University, in Spokane. He and his wife, Sally, have two children, Megan, 25, Greg, 23, and a daughter-in-law, Carly.
